THE Future OF FINTECH In ASEAN

Innovation in digital finance will lead to a cashless society and transform the way of doing business. Initial coin offerings (ICOs) of cryptocurrencies and crowdfunding are some of the new developments changing the business landscape. However, the most meaningful change the digitisation of finance could offer would be financial inclusion. Less than 5% of the global middle class, or 1.8 million people today, are able to access financial services and by 2030, this number is projected to grow to 4.9 billion. Financial inclusion could potentially alleviate income inequality through the democratision of wealth creation.

How 4IR will help SMEs
leapfrog into the next decade

Smart MSMEs have the potential to revolutionise the ASEAN economy as more than 90% of enterprises within the region are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and they provide more than half of the employment in the region. Digital integration in ASEAN would enable improved efficiency within and between companies and remove the physical distance between local businesses and individuals. The utilisation of smart machineries reduces reliance on manual workers while the use of data analytics efficiently tracks sales and the distribution of goods.

In the future, cyborg technology could be utilised by people with amputated limbs and “home” robots will be able to assist with elderly care. Currently, electronic record management, better diagnostic tools, connected medical devices and smart home services or tele-medicine are some of the innovations disrupting the healthcare industry. The utilisation of AI in healthcare will enable new types of preventive and remote healthcare, and accelerate the development of new drugs.

unlocking artificial intelligence potential for asean businesses

From self-driving cars to robots, artificial intelligence makes it possible for machines to learn from experience, adjust to new information and perform human-like tasks. In the future, automated transportation can reduce congestion and traffic accident rates while automation could be used for dangerous tasks such as bomb defusing. AI machines with big data capabilities could one day be able to identify trends and use the information to solve global issues such as climate change.
